This initiative has arisen by a number or learning providers in the locality coming together and co-operating to opportunities for local people to access learning are more easily accessed and more readily supported. In doing so, each person will become ‘better’ as an individual and, as a consequence, the whole community will become ‘better’ too.
The launch will take place in the evening at West Lancashire Yacht Club where invited guests from across the local community will have a chance to ‘launch’ this initiative. Following a welcome and presentation about this initiative, there will be an opportunity for the contributing organisations to begin to inform and embrace other potential member organisations. Both they and the residents of Southport will be encouraged to participate. Initially, this may be by taking part in learning opportunities already available and, later on, by suggesting, creating and supporting new initiatives too
Time will be given for discussion and networking to enable those present to consider what becoming a ‘learning town’ could add to themselves or those they represent. They will also be asked what they themselves might contribute. In that way, this Movement will be enhanced by the involvement of the whole community ensuring that what is built together is greater than the sum of its parts.
At the Launch, the main Southport Learning Town website will go live alongside other social media strands to invite all members of the local community to take part in current education and learning provision and to be open to joining in new and exciting opportunities as they arise.
